The permanent settlement began probably in 11th or 12th century. There were two business routes leading through Cenovice. The first one was from Prachatice via Pelhrimov to Hradec Kralove. The second business route led from Tabor to Jindrichuv Hradec. The crossroads of these two paths caused a big prosperity of Cernovice, which became a significant business centre. Cernovice has a few monuments as a result of many fires, forays and sacking. The most important are the church of “Povyseni svateho Krize” rebuilt into today’s appearance in 1737 and the chateau from 1641. There is a large chateau park with 48ha, opened to public. Its best-known alleys are “Bila (White)”- former “Italska (Italian)”, “Cerna (Black)” and “Modrinovska (Larch)”. The chapel of St. Anna in Prsin has been built in 1736. There is a Jewish cemetery from 1730 on the road to Svidnik about 740 metres away.
